Part Two

Chanoro stepped hard on the gas and the sleek, black Toyota Celica roared down the highway and onto the motorway, he gunned the exelarator but it just wasn't fast enough, he needed speed to clear his head. He reached under the dashboard and flipped open the concealed catch to reveal a big red button, he grinned and punched the button hard, the car seemed to leap forward and then it screamed down the motorway, sending Chanoro thudding back into his seat, he screamed with laughter as he sped at 450mph down the road. He hit the button again, took his foot off the accelerator and eased his foot onto the brake, the car eventually skidded to a halt and he drove onto a deserted country road, he veered off and the car flew into a ploughed field, he left the car and ran off in the direction of an enormous and ancient-looking mansion. When he reached the doors, he placed his hand on the thumb-print scanner next to the bell, a virtual data-screen popped up and he quickly typed in a complex code, the data-sheet vanished and the doors opened with a mechanised hiss. He walked into the house and the doors hissed shut behind him.

Chanoro walked into the brightly lit interior, he took off his jacket and threw it at the rack by the door, a robotic arm reached from the stand caught it, folded it and place it into a slot in the wall, the jacket slid away with a whirring sound. "Thank you Paladin," Chanoro said, apparently to empty air, "you are welcome Chanoro," said a synthesised voice that came from all around him. Chanoro continued along the hallway until he came to a flight of solid glass stairs, he went up and further into the facility. Chanoro ran up the stairs for about half a minute before he came to a set of thick steel doors, he looked up at the motionless lens set into the ceiling, "data core code 824197624091938 open 5," he said and with an almost inperceptable hiss, the doors slid apart and he was bathed in golden light. A golden face made up of tiny pixel-hexagons morphed into view in the air before him, Chanoro clicked and a thin, white tablet slid out of a computer block next to him, he removed the tablet and tapped out a series of commands on the device. A cloud of whirring machinery and electrical lightning descended on Chanoro, it engulfed him and then flew away, he stepped away-now wearing data-goggles and data-influx gloves, he walked towards another door in the facility. He turned the handle and entered the room, he was bathed in gold light, he closed the door behind him. He turned to face the contents of the room, a vast cylindrical pedestal dominated the room, on it sat a sphere ofpure yellow energy, Paladin's central processing core.Chanoro checked radiation levels on the tablet, only five rad, it had stabilised considerably, it was off the charts last time, a device in his pocket emitted an anti-radiation field but it never hurt to be careful. He reached into his pocket and brought out the device, it was small but chunky and looked like a cross between a mac book, a mobile and a geiger counter, he fiddled with one of the dials and flicked a switch, he slipped it back into his pocket and removed the glove from his right hand, he placed it on a wall-bracketed table and walked forwards. Gingerely, he reached his hand towards the radioactive core, "WARNING!" and alarm screeched, "Chanoro, what are you doing?" asked the measured voice of Paladin, his golden face forming in the air before Chanoro, "a little experiment of mine," Chanoro answered and thrust his arm forward, making contact with the core, there was an explosion and he flew backwards, slamming against the wall and falling in a heap on the floor. "Good shot, even if I do say so myself," the figure of a girl said from the doorway, she blew the smoke from the barrel of the gun, "now," she said, walking to Chanoro and pointing the gun at his head, "do as I say or your master dies," she said, "NOW!"
